History of the Pan Project:

Musical Instrument Construction: Three Caribbean steel drum
artisan-musicians, Eustace "Manning" Henry, Veron Henry and Stafford Joseph from Hellsgate Steel Band, St. John's, Antigua, WI were in residence at John Marshall High School, Rochester, NY, USA from 25 October to 12 November 1999. As part of U.N.I.Q.U.E., an Artist-in-Residence program, the artisan-musicians and a select group of students constructed and tuned 40 "pans" and accompanying stands.

WXXI broadcasted interviews with the builders.

Performance: 14-15 November 1999 the remaining musicians of Hellsgate Steel Band, the Community Players of Antigua singers and the Mamtumbi dancers joined the artisan-musicians and students of John Marshall High School in a concert available to students and residents of Rochester, NY. held at the 2000 seat Theater on the Ridge, Rochester, NY. A second concert was presented in the Tower Fine Arts Complex Theatre on the SUNY Brockport campus.

Antigua Community Players are considered Antigua's musical ambassadors.
Dignitaries invited to attend included the Mayor of Rochester, Members of City Council, the Superintendent of Schools, and members of the Arts Council of Rochester.
