The process
Sinking the pan: (single tenors are sunk to a depth of 9 inches)
This takes patience and care with a 6 lb sledge hammer for about 8 hours.
Placing the notes: Using magnetic templates and a nail punch, the notes are
hammered in place.

Cut the skirt: The shorter the skirt the higher the pitch.

Firing the pans: About 20 minutes to burn out the lead and other elements.

Rough tuning: To establish the pitch of each note.

Fine tuning: To blend the notes using the 440 standard.

Painting: Silver coat inside and underneath

Stand building: 12ft shanks of steel are cut and welded to create various sizes.

Stick making: A little doweling and rubber from many sources.
